So, Monday came and went, and I never posted, as I had promiced.  My deepest and most sincerest apologies.  I’ve just been feeling listless as of late.  No energy.  Plus, I’ve had nothing to say, so I haven’t said a thing.  Well, the urge to be creative hit me this afternoon, BUT, well, it’s nearly my bed time.  Maybe I’ll find the energy to post tomorrow.  Maybe.

…I forgot to post that I would be away for the holiday week. Anyway, I’m back now. More to come later to day. Hopefully…

Micro Blogging

I used to feel bad if I didn’t add something to this site everyday. But now, not so much. This is because of Twitter. I have been using Twitter as a way to pester strangers & communicate with online firends, but also as a way to blog, in very small bursts.

I was under the impression that Twitter would archive all my updates, but learned yesterday that Twiter only saves the last 200 posts you’ve made. So, of my nearly 400 “tweets”, half are now lost for all time. To prevent that from happening again, I’ve decided to “reprint” my Twitter posts here once a week.

Below, you’ll find the 200 tweets I was able to save. Or some of them at least. I was not able to save all of the “conversations” I’ve had via Twitter. My side of things were there, but I wasnt able to access the responces I recieved. Anyway, the conversations I did save, you’ll find other people words in bold italic, while my words are just plain type.

Connections

I’ve added my contact information to the site, in the upper right hand side. As I’ve mentioned plenty of times before, the schedule I keep (at home with the kids during the day, and working an unsatisfying job at night) has left me a bit board with life. The lack of friendly adult interaction (something that I cant even get at work, for the most part) has really brought me down. If it werent for my wife and a couple of good friends, I’d be all alone. But don’e weep for me, i’m not hear o be all emo or too look for your pitty. I’m here to tell you I’ve found a solution. I’ve turned to the internet.

Now, this site isn’t breaking any records for blog readers, but I have been able to strike up a few conversations online recently. And it’s been fun. Talking with strangers given me a bit of what I have been missing in my life. So, I hope to keep doing that, being it via email, chat, Skype or something else. Anyway, the whole point of this post it to point out the addition I’ve added to the site, and to ask you, who ever you are, to contact me. I look forward to talking to YOU!

Updated - I was just using JustinTV to “chat” (more like dueling lifecasts) with “The Senseless Bloggr“, Matt.  (See His Tumblr, See His Twitters).  It was odd.  I’ve been wanting to meet strangers online because I am so board, and I finally did.  But, to finally KNOW that there someone out there has read my Tweets and this site, well, it was odd.  To know that they can see my ugly face, to hear my nasally voice, well, I dont think I’m ready for the attention.  I thought I was, but I may not be.  Maybe I should ease into this world of lifecasting by first getting my podcast idea off of the ground first?

Nah, I’ll just do it and results be damned!  They’re only strangers after all.  (But strangers hope to make my friends!) (my gawd that was sickly, wasn’t it.)

Bad Spelling & Good Blog Stats - Part 2

I did it again.  I misspelled the name of another site.  This time, I linked to Jake and Amir, but used the name Admir instead of Amir.  This typo has caused me to receive some traffic when people mistype the name Amir into search engines.  My typo was the first link that came up on Google.  I should leave the mistake, but in good conscience, I cant.  I’ve made the change.  Oh well.  I’ll have to find some other, more honest way, to trick people into coming to this site.  Wish me luck.

Summer Projects

Okay, I have two summer projects I want to work on on-line. The first is my Can I Act idea, which I’ve already written about. I haven’t received any feedback about this yet, but I haven’t given up on this one yet. I just need to find a way to spread the word. Any ideas? Any scripts for me? Let me know.

The second project I want to do is a podcast/v-log type thing, where I just strike up a conversation with a complete stranger. (I’m thinking of going with the title “Stranger Danger”. Too cheezy?) I just want to see if I can have an interesting discussion with someone I do not know, without having preplanned anything, with having more then one or two prepared questions.  It will be interesting to see what common ground two strangers can find, what difference we’ll have, what we come up with to talk about, and if we can make it entertaining.  I think this will be a challenge, and I look forward to it.

I hope to do this online, via iChat or Skype or something, so that I can talk to people all over the world.  But, to keep it from being too tech-ish, I am also going to try and find some local strangers to talk to. I just have this urge to “put on a show”, and my whole idea of interviewing semi-famous people hasn’t really worked out, so I thought I would shift gears and move to more regular folk. (I know I’ve mentioned that idea before, i just cant find the post, so sorry, no link.)

Bad Spelling & Good Blog Stats

I’m a bad speller.  Even with spell check, many misspellings have made it onto this page.  And oddly enough, a misspelling has lead to many people discovering this site!

I was checking my blog stats the other day, and on May 23rd, I had the most visits ever to this site (A Whooping 115 Unique Visitors!!!)  This was surprising to me, and it made me happy, in a weird egotistical way.  But, I got curious about why and how people where discovering this little site o’mine. (and then I lost that weird happy feeling when I discovered the truth.)

Well, after digging deeper, I discovered that people who are searching for funnyman Jon Lajoie are coming to my site.  Apparently, when you search Google for “JohnLajoie.com“, the second listing that comes up is an old version of this blog (which is still sitting there over on Blogger), which then links to this page.  And when people look for Jon Lajoie on this site, they can find an old post entitled “Funny Ha Ha“.

(on a side note, if you want to got to “JohnLajoie.com“, why search for it on Google, and not just go right to the site?  I dont get it.)

Anyway, maybe you have already caught the typo/misspelling/glitch that causes people to find SenselessBabble.com…  The mans name is Jon Lajoie, yet I link to JohnLajoie.com.  See the propblem?  See the “H”?  Ah ha!

So, the actually site is JonLajoie.com.  JohnLajoie.com appears to be a “non-site” site. So, now I’m torn; do I correct the mistake?  And possible loose the biggest draw to this site, or do I correct it and hope some good e-karma will come my way?  Well, I’ve decided to do both!

I will correct the typo on this site, so that people who visit SenselessBabble.com will be brought to Mr. Lajoies real site (which is very funny, have a look if you haven’t visited it yet!  Tell ‘im SB sent ya!), BUT, I will leave the mistaken link alone on the old Blogger version of this site.  It’s a dead/abandoned site anyway, so, it would be kinda morbid to dig up it’s bones at this late date just to fix the cuff links on the suit of the corpse. (gonning with a bad metaphor here folks, stay with me.)

So, there ya go.  Another blog post about the blog, which normally I hate.  But this time out, I think it’s kinda interesting.  Also, just a hello to any Jon (and John) Lajoie fans who have stumbled onto this site.  Leave me a comment or send me and email just to say hello!  Thanks!

New Software

Today I purchased MacSpeech Dictate, a software program similar to Dragon NaturallySpeaking.  I am speaking into a microphone, and what is said is dictated into a notepad. I’ve gone through the tutorial to teach the computer my voice and now I’m testing its ability to understand me. I am wondering if this will make posting easier. In the past I have written that I wanted to make video posts, but I can’t bring myself to actually turn on the camera and talk to it; it’s it’s just a little too weird for me. I guess I’m more self conscious then I thought I was.  Talking is also a little too weird right now, I think it may be faster than simply writing, and in time many alow me to post more, and more easily, but it’s going to take some time to get used to.

Okay one paragraph down and so far it’s not too bad.  I see a few edits I need to make before posting this online, but I like it so far. Well, I like that it works, but getting used to talking out loud instead of writing is going to take some time to get used to. Simply because I don’t speak the same way that I write, and vice versa. Like I said, it’s a little weird, it’s a little odd.

Let me try some random stuff, and I wont edit it, the phrases below are as they software dictated them…

This little taking went to market, this little piggy stayed on (home). This little piggy had a roast in the and (beef), and in this little piggy and (had) none. And this little piggy went in the (wee) wee meet (wee) all the way home.

Okay, the first two paragraphs turned out better thenthese test lines, but, oh well, that’s what ya get.  We are far from Star Trek-like voice communications with our ‘puters.

I’m going to wrap this up, I’m worried that my wife is going to think I’m talking to myself, so I’m turning this off now.  I have a long list of of stuff I want to post, since I haven’t really written much in the last two weeks or so, but that will have to wait until tomorrow.  For now, it is time for me to go to bed.  Sorry for another boring entry, I just needed to try this software out.  I think I’ll stick with it for now.  I’ll keep you informed on my thoughts and opinions about this project.

Where am I?

Last week was the week of no sleep - 7 days in a row with only 5 hours (or less) a night.  No energy to blog

This week the wife is home from work, using some vacation time.  She’s keeping me busy.  No time to blog.

Just wanted to let anyone and every one who might be worried about me know what I haven’t been online.

Ugh.

I feel like I have been ignoring this site.  And I have been.  Kinda.  First i was sick, then i was busy, and now this week is school vacation week, so I’ll have my hands busy with the kids.  Ugh.  Too much to do, and not enough time to do it.  But there is some good news…

ROFLcon is this Friday!!!!  Yeah baby!  I’m so excited!  I’m not excited for the event itself, but more for the excitement of doing something, anything, out of the normal.  It’s been so long since I’ve had a road trip.  Taking the kids to their grandparents (while a good time) simply doesn’t count.  Nor is it the same.  I just want some fun.  I have nothing fun in my life right now.

My goal for the summer is to have some fun.  ROFLcom is the the first step.  My attempt to get some interesting people talk to me on this site is the second.  My attempt to learn Final Cut Express, and then create some video, is step three. These are very small steps, but it’s been so long since I’ve had fun, that I need to take small steps.  Otherwise my fun-endix might explode and then I’ll need a fun-dectimy.

Anyway, I really hate blogging about blogging, but that’s what this post it.  I fall back on the theme of blogging about blogging whenever I have nothing else to say.  Which is all to often.  Sorry.

Welcome Back!

Thank you, it’s good to be back!  After a long week of feeling kinda crappy, and then working all weekend long to make up my time lost from work (double shifts of hell!  Don’t get me started about how crappy a company I work for is.  But if you need to buy something from a catalog, don’t buy something from a New England catalog company, okay?), I’m finally back.

But of course, today, Monday, is my one “free day”, meaning I have about 5 hours to myself, my five hours for the week.  So what did I do with my time?  Beer and pizza!  So now, I’m full, tired, and not quite drunk, but not quite “with it” enough to write clearly.

But, I wanted to post something, anything, because I haven’t in so long.  But, as always, I cant think of a damn thing to say.  Nothing interesting anyway.  So, since I am not all that interesting, I think I need to find some interesting people to come on my site.  (this is an idea I’ve been brewing for a while now.)  I have decided to try and “interview” some people I find interesting, since I’m not, and this site isn’t.  Maybe by talking to them, and then posting the conversations on this site, I can then get more people to visit, and can make myself seem “more better” to the world online.  (Because, as you know, everything I do, I do it for you, you wonderful online strangers.)  I’m not going to tell you yet who i am trying to get on the site, but if any one knows the publicists of anyone even remotely semi-famous, please, let me know.  Thank you.

I’ve been a bit under the weather the last few days, thus the lack of updates. More latter, when i have my strength back. Thanks for your patience.

A Good Idea

I just had a good idea, that started with a good question. “Sunshine4All“, a member of ‘Wish Upon A Hero‘ sent me a note about my wish. In the note, she asked…

“…in the future how many will know or even care of any one person’s existence. Well I say where are all the blogs gonna be when the author no longer cares or is around. Hmmmm wonder what will be done with them??”

Good question. My first thought about this was the practical. Two ideas came to mind. First, the data would eventually be lost, as unused accounts are closed by the hosting companies, the hard-drives the ones and zeros are stored on will be wiped and reused. Or, the second idea was that, as technology marches forward, storage memory will be come cheaper and more plentiful. The spinning disks we call hard drives today will soon become solid state, and then some other fantastical medium. I believe that soon, there will be enough space for all the ones and zeros out there, that nothing will ever be erased. And that some way, some where, all the blogs will live on, like books in a giant library, though most likely books that are rarely if ever checked out, and ones that eventually only become of interest to historical researchers.

I’ve no clue if I’m making any sense here, but those are my ideas, and they make perfect sense to me. (so there! ha!)

But, after I came to these conclusions, my mind stayed on this subject, and looked at it in another way. I started thinking about my own blog. This blog. These words you are reading now. I wondered, when I’m gone, will my family, my decedents ever find these words? Will they get the chance to read them and get to know me through this site? I kind of doubt it, especially since I don’t really say my name in these posts. (I like the anonymity!)

So, I’ve decided to try a attempt a little project. I am going to start printing and saving these posts, (and all the related links and photos), and then binding them. I’ll create a journal out of this site. I’ll turn these ones and zeros into something tangible, something I can pass along after I am gone.

But, I cant think about this too much. Heck, I have yet to share this site with my family in the here and now because fear their response (I’m a bit shy!). Now, I have to worry about the reaction of my unborn grandchildren and great grandchildren!

Anyway, I thank Sunshine4All for the great idea, and say hello to my decedents (Hello from the past! Have the robots taken over yet? Do you have a flying car yet? How many of you are named after me?). Wish me luck as I undertake this newest endeavor.

Make A Wish

On Friday, according to my WordPress blogstats, I received 68 visitors. That’s a new record! A New Best Day Ever!!!

What to I attribute this too? Two things. First, spread the word about my embarrassing video (see the bookmark link at the end of this post? I used that, and you can too!). Secondly, I attribute this great day to some good folks over at the website ‘Wish Upon A Hero‘.

This is an interesting site. The idea is simple; you post your “wish” and other will help grant it if they can. Also, you can repay the favor by granting the wishes of others! The wishes are as simple as please come visit my website (which was what I posted), all the way up to request for goodly sums of money. But honestly, most of the wishes are at the smaller end and tend to be easy to grant, or only take a few dollars to help some one out.

I had 12 people email me directly about my site after I posted my wish. Based on the amount of visitors I received, even more must of read my wish and visited without sending me a note. To all of you who came, i say “Thank You!”. Thank you very much! I greatly appreciate it. I hope I get to repay the favor some day. -(I also hope you keep coming back to visit! Now that I know that there are people out there reading these words, I really hope I can succeed in my goal of becoming “more entertaining and/or insightful”. Wish me luck!)

105!!!

I didn’t even notice it, but the milestone 100th post passed me by. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the 105th post on SenselessBabble.com! (and it only took me 147 days to reach this number)

This is my umpteenth attempt at a site, an I finally seemed to have created one I enjoy doing, and I finally have one that seems to be “sticking”. Cool! I’m so proud of myself; seven deadly sins be damned! Okay, I’ve managed to post some quantity, now I must post some quality. My goal of joining a social network a day continues. Today I joined Orkut, the network run my Google. Unlike me Bebo page, where I simply copied all my details from my Facebook page, today on Orkut I gave all new, all original (and all fake) answers to their questions. boring stuff & social networking

Just doing a bit of “house cleaning” today, since I don’t seem to have the brain power to come up with anything original today. - Each night while toiling away at my crappy job, I think of all the stuff I plan to do with my day to come once I get home. Enviably, I do not accomplish my long “to do” list, but it’s fun to fantasize about getting things done. Lately, I have been sitting at my desk and contemplating writing the worlds greatest blog post. But of course, the idea of what the worlds greatest blog post is, well, sadly, that part never comes to me.

So, today, I did just waisted some time. I played on Twitter. I decided to try and find fictional characters and fake famous people to follow. (I found six versions of George W Bush. None of them seem to be fans of the real guy. But then, who is?) - Also, I updated my MySpace page, which has sat untouched since I set it up. All I did was update the photo and accepted some friends requests. They are only spam-friends, but hey, friends are friends right? (I’m now regretting declining all the other spam-friend requests I had deleted in the previous months.) I then set up a Facebook page. I’m now contemplating setting up a page on every social networking site I can find.

So, if your on any of these site; Twitter, MySpace, Facebook or any others, well then send me a friend request, and I promise not to say no.

Twitter

I used to play with Twitter on one of my other sites. It’s a fun waist of time, but I really don’t see it as a great communication tool. At least not the way i use it. Anyway, it’s just a fun toy, like I said.

So, i decided to set up a Twitter feed on this site. You can see it over on the right, in the upper corner. But for some reason, I can only get it to show the first post I made on Twitter. Ugh. This stuff is so frustrating. Why cant everything work the way you want it to, the first time you do it? Oh well, at least it gives me a new problem to futz with and try to figure out. The problem solving is half the fun most of the time!

UPDATE: - It works!  It appears that there is a signifigant time lag between when I post on Twitter and when it appears here.  That’s annoying, but I can live it.

Best Day Ever!

Yesterday was the best day ever!!!  Sort of.  yesterday I had the most hits EVER!  For this site that is.  A whopping 44 visitors!  Hello and thanks.  Though, no one out there has stopped to leave a comment or say hello yet, so…  oh well.

Yeah, but…

I found THIS article over on The Times Online (11 years ago I lived in London.  I still read the British papers.  I so want to go back!).  According to a new report, blogging is a theraputic activity for those of us who suffer from depression.  (A theropist once told me to keep a journal, and what is a blog other then an online journal?)

Anyway, I can understand the argument, that blogging makes you feel more connected to the world and part of a larger comunity, but I wonder, what about a case of a blog like this one; a blog that no one reads?  Wouldn’t that make the writer a bit more depressed?  More detached from the world?  More alone?

On a personal note, it doesnt make me feel “worse” to be unread, because I know I haven’t taken any steps to “advirtise” the blog.  Maybe some day I will join discussion groups and fourums and comunities to “spread the word” about SenselessBabble.com, but for now, I don’t think this site has a “voice” or an identiy.  Maybe some day.  Hopefully soon.  Now that I finally have a good computer, I can’t make any more excuses about not having the “proper tools”.

Anyway, this was just a thought that crossed my mind as I was reading this.  Just wanted to share.

Sorry no posts.  I’m just plugging away at getting my home movies on disk.  I have the process down now, it’s just the long time it takes to render the little moves I’m making.  (sorry, don’t know if I am describing the proces corectly, but this is how I think of it.)

Anyway, more stuff coming, but this may take a few weeks.  I have finished the first four hours worth of homes movies, of about 30 that I want to port to disk.  Once my wifes birthday passes (it’s  this Thuresday),  things should go a bit faster, since I will be able to work on this project when she is around.  Till then, no time to babble senslessly.

New Header

Before my new toy arrived today, I created the new header for the site.  The face was drawn by my son when he was two.  It was the first time he drew a picture and said “this is me!”  I love this picture.  It’s been on my bedroom wall ever since.  Anyway, I scanned the image, and did the rest in MSPaint.  It looked good in MSPaint, but looks a little blurry on the page now.  I’m going to tweek it a bit more later, but for now, it’s good enough.  Someday, i may even have this made into a t-shirt!  Who wants to buy one?

Site Maintenance

In lew of publishing a real article today, I instead did some clean up on the site today.  First off, I add the new “Donate” page.  I’m so stinking broke!  I have many thousands of dollars less then zero, that if I had only zeros dollars, I would explode with a joygasm like none other in the history of joygasms.  I also updated the “WTF?!?!” page.  My goal is to add a new fact about myself each day.  And yes, these are facts
