Quantum of Solace
June 30, 2008The new James Bond trailer hit the interwebs today. Very Nice! Bond makes me happy!
Wall-E
June 29, 2008Just got back from a matinee of the latest Pixar flick, “Wall-E”. Man-oh-man, can Pixar do no wrong? How can this one company make one good movie after another? It will be a sad day when they stumble.
Anyway, I’m not a film reviewer, so I’m not going to go into detail other then to say I liked this film. A lot. Here’s what stuck out at me; the cinematography. They did things with the camera in this movie that you don’t normally see in a “kids” film, and I quite enjoyed them. From a fast zoom across great distances, to the way the characters were followed in long shots. This part of the film delighted me and kept me waiting for the next little “trick” that was about to make me say “whoa!”. Also, other then the cartoony people, it was hard to believe that I was watching an animated film. There was a realism to the worlds of Wall-E that made me nearly gasp. You’d think that after the two decades-plus since computer animation became a staple of Hollywood, I’d get used to how cool it can be. Well, I’m not. I still am wowed by these effects.
The story was typical, almost formulaic, but then, I find most big time movies are. But like all the other Pixar films, they are able to push the formulaic to the next level to make it better then good. The emotion was there, the laughs were cute, and action was exciting. I recommend this film, not just for kids, but for nearly anyone.
Oh, my one complaint: Fred Williards character. The fact that they had a live action actor blended in with the animation didn’t sit well with me. Sort of took me out of it for a bit. But, since Fred Williard makes me laugh, I’ll forgive it this time.
Thanks for reading. Go see the film and tell me what you think. Thanks.
Hulk Smash!
June 2, 2008What can I say, but I am a sucker for big-tent summer block buster pop-corn feuled movies. Things with lots of special effects, loud explosions, and the the type of visual spectical that can only be truely appreciated on the big screen. For example, while Speed Racer was not a great movie, I’m still glad to say I paid money to see it in the theater.
That said, I am very excited about the new Incredible Hulk movie that is coming to a theater near you on June 10th. Well, I’m not going to go on about this film (and I could, trust me!), but I am bring this up for a reason. Aint It Cool News had a link to a great new trialer (or is it just a commercial?) for this film.
What’s so great about it? To back track a moment, as a kid, I loved the Incredible Hulk TV show. And I still, to this day, think that the opening credit of the show are one of the best ever. Well, the new trailer harkens back to the old TV show big time! It’s a great homage, and it gave me a big smile.
Here, let me share them with you… First the TV Show, and then the Movie…
Link-O-Rama
May 28, 2008If I had one wish for this site, it would be.. No, strike that, let me start over. If I was ever going to turn this site into a “real” site, other then my little personalized corner of the interwebs, I would love to make it one of those sites that is nothing more then a collection of links of other sites. Some sites (like Dark Roasted Blend) give you just the links, while others give their opinion or a pithy comment on the link (Geekologie is one of my favorites in this cataory. The comments are justs as entertaining as the links themelves, in my opinion. Sure, the “lads” humor, as the Brits call it, isn’t for every one, but it fits my tastes!), but no matter the format, I quite enjoy this type of site as a way to pass the time and to keep up with the world.
But, since I don’t have the time or energy to scan the webby-tubes each day to find hundreds of kewl links for all of you, my faithful readers, this site will just have to be what it is; dull, and limited in links.
That said, let me show you a few neat things I found today…
From Film School Rejects… A series of clips from movies, remade with Typography. I’ve seen two od these before, but FSR has collected a slow of them together for you. ~CLICK HERE FOR THE ARTICLE~ ps..no nudity, but NSFW due to language.
Next, an article from Boing Boing. I’ll admit it, I’m a closeted Micheal Jackson fan. Sure, his personal life is as freaky as all get out, but as a performer, I think he is pretty grand! Anyway, here is a version of the “Smooth Criminal” video, remade with Fred Astair films. Astair was a big influence on Jacksons dancing style, and you can see it here. ~CLICK HERE FOR THE ARTICLE~
That’s all I have for links today. As I find more, I’ll post them, if the fancy strikes me, or what ever that phrase is.
