Metal!

July 18, 2008

Check out this story from the BBC. - LINK HERE - It’s interesting for two reasons. First, it is about a Capuchin monk, Brother Cesare Bonizzi, is the lead singer in a heavy metal band. Rock on. Second, check out the volume “knob” (for lack of a better word) on the BBC video player. Turn it up. Turn it way up. It Goes To Eleven!!! That rocks even harder! Awesome!

Retirement

July 17, 2008

My “Non Sequiturs” page is going away.  Why?  Because it was rather lame.  And I didn’t keep up with it and add to it daily as I had planned.  And because it wasn’t all that funny.  And because I want to.  And because I say so.  And because, just because.

But, for all of you who care, I will repost the page here now, along with one new non sequitur, for your enjoyment…

non sequitur - from the Latin “it does not follow” - 1. an inference or a conclusion that does not follow from the premises. 2. a statement containing an illogical conclusion. 3. a reply that has no relevance to what preceded it

I greatly enjoy non sequiturs when used for comedic effect. Use one of these, my (kinda sorta) daily non sequiturs, in you conversation each day, and see what fun will come your way!

07/17/08 - “Azreal has the answers!”

06/23/08 - “Where’s the lemons!?!”

06/13/08 - “Oh, that reminds me, we need more Brain Power!”

06/12/08 - “What if it’s all fake!?!”

05/30/08 - “The sugar is the element!”

05/28/08 - “Shum-dingle-luscious! Them’s some fine veggies!”

05/25/08 - “Who’s Larry?”

05/20/08 - “The car payment is due!”

05/01/08 - “I believe in the power of milk!”

04/28/08 - “This is a riddle wrapped in bacon all right!”

Monday, July 14th

July 16, 2008

So, Monday came and went, and I never posted, as I had promiced.  My deepest and most sincerest apologies.  I’ve just been feeling listless as of late.  No energy.  Plus, I’ve had nothing to say, so I haven’t said a thing.  Well, the urge to be creative hit me this afternoon, BUT, well, it’s nearly my bed time.  Maybe I’ll find the energy to post tomorrow.  Maybe.

Sorry…

July 8, 2008

…I forgot to post that I would be away for the holiday week. Anyway, I’m back now. More to come later to day. Hopefully…

UPDATE!!! - Due to time constraints, family obligations, and lack of anything to say, there wont be any update to this site until Monday July 14th.  So, set your alarms and mark your calendars, and come back then!  Thanks!

Wall-E

June 29, 2008

Just got back from a matinee of the latest Pixar flick, “Wall-E”.  Man-oh-man, can Pixar do no wrong?  How can this one company make one good movie after another?  It will be a sad day when they stumble.

Anyway, I’m not a film reviewer, so I’m not going to go into detail other then to say I liked this film.  A lot. Here’s what stuck out at me; the cinematography.  They did things with the camera in this movie that you don’t normally see in a “kids” film, and I quite enjoyed them.  From a fast zoom across great distances, to the way the characters were followed in long shots.  This part of the film delighted me and kept me waiting for the next little “trick” that was about to make me say “whoa!”.  Also, other then the cartoony people, it was hard to believe that I was watching an animated film.  There was a realism to the worlds of Wall-E that made me nearly gasp.  You’d think that after the two decades-plus since computer animation became a staple of Hollywood, I’d get used to how cool it can be.  Well, I’m not.  I still am wowed by these effects.

The story was typical, almost formulaic, but then, I find most big time movies are.  But like all the other Pixar films, they are able to push the formulaic to the next level to make it better then good.  The emotion was there, the laughs were cute, and action was exciting.  I recommend this film, not just for kids, but for nearly anyone.

Oh, my one complaint: Fred Williards character.  The fact that they had a live action actor blended in with the animation didn’t sit well with me.  Sort of took me out of it for a bit.  But, since Fred Williard makes me laugh, I’ll forgive it this time.

Thanks for reading.  Go see the film and tell me what you think.  Thanks.

Micro Blogging

June 29, 2008

I used to feel bad if I didn’t add something to this site everyday. But now, not so much. This is because of Twitter. I have been using Twitter as a way to pester strangers & communicate with online firends, but also as a way to blog, in very small bursts.

I was under the impression that Twitter would archive all my updates, but learned yesterday that Twiter only saves the last 200 posts you’ve made. So, of my nearly 400 “tweets”, half are now lost for all time. To prevent that from happening again, I’ve decided to “reprint” my Twitter posts here once a week.

Below, you’ll find the 200 tweets I was able to save. Or some of them at least. I was not able to save all of the “conversations” I’ve had via Twitter. My side of things were there, but I wasnt able to access the responces I recieved. Anyway, the conversations I did save, you’ll find other people words in bold italic, while my words are just plain type.

update - this post is a mess, i’ve tried twice, but I cant get the formatting correct.  Sorry.

Lego Heaven!

June 26, 2008

I need to start reading Gizmodo more often.  They find some of the coolest stuff out there!  Such as THIS article about a trip to the headquarters of Lego.  It contains the Lego Secret Vault that contains one of Every Lego Set Ever Made!!!  (And there was also THIS article which answers many of your Lego Questions!)

I’m one of those people who believe that Legos are more then simple toys (which is why I buy too many Legos for my kids), and the writer of this article is of a similar mind set.  In fact, his words got me a little misty eyed.  I’m such a big baby!

The Simpsons-Quake III Map

This video shows a great map for Quake III, set in Springfield.  This is a great mashup of one of the best TV shows ever and one of my favorite FPS’s off all time!  I wonder how long it took them to make it? It’s nearly flawless!  (And yes, this is another link stolen from Boing Boing)

I’m Famous! Part Four

June 25, 2008

It’s been two and a half months since ROFLcon, and the media coverage of the event continues to role in. No, I’m not talking about the recent mention on Cracked.com, but rather an article that appeared on Wired, two days ago. Before you read the article, take a look at the photo. Yes, the first thing your eyes will be drawn to is the magnificent Mr. Jay Maynard, aka The Tron Guy! BUT, you may also notice the Ickabod Crane-type character in the back ground. Well, that gangzly geek is me! Yup, I’m famous! Famous by osmosis, but famous none the less!

Tron Guy and Me in Wired

Anyway, I jut wanted to share this. ROFLcon was the only thing I’ve done all year that was fun, in a non-kid related way. Sorry for mentioning it so much. I have had other adventures, but I tend not to want to write about stuff I do with the kids. This site is my imaginary-place where I can escape the daily routine of fatherhood, and pretend that I’m still young and free. Kinda like why I always imagined that Mr. Rogers kept that little house that he would stop each day, before going home to his family. Damn, I wish i had a place like that. Though, I’d use it to drink beer and play games, not chat with “My TV Friends”.

But wait, since I’ve started using JustinTV to occationally “lifecast”, isn’t that exactly the same thing I am doing? Oh crap.

Connections

June 24, 2008

I’ve added my contact information to the site, in the upper right hand side. As I’ve mentioned plenty of times before, the schedule I keep (at home with the kids during the day, and working an unsatisfying job at night) has left me a bit board with life. The lack of friendly adult interaction (something that I cant even get at work, for the most part) has really brought me down. If it werent for my wife and a couple of good friends, I’d be all alone. But don’e weep for me, i’m not hear o be all emo or too look for your pitty. I’m here to tell you I’ve found a solution. I’ve turned to the internet.

Now, this site isn’t breaking any records for blog readers, but I have been able to strike up a few conversations online recently. And it’s been fun. Talking with strangers given me a bit of what I have been missing in my life. So, I hope to keep doing that, being it via email, chat, Skype or something else. Anyway, the whole point of this post it to point out the addition I’ve added to the site, and to ask you, who ever you are, to contact me. I look forward to talking to YOU!

I’m On Tv - Come Watch! (updated)

June 23, 2008

Since I haven’t received any Skype calls from strangers yet…

I set up a channel on JustinTV today. — www.justin.tv/senselessbabble — I’m not “putting on a show”, I’m just going to broadcast while I’m online. I figure my show (excuse me, “channel” is the proper term) will be just as boring as this site. So, go, watch, and you’ll find endless hours of me typing, reading and ignoring my kids. Send me an email and tell me what you think. Thanks.

Updated - I was just using JustinTV to “chat” (more like dueling lifecasts) with “The Senseless Bloggr“, Matt.  (See His Tumblr, See His Twitters).  It was odd.  I’ve been wanting to meet strangers online because I am so board, and I finally did.  But, to finally KNOW that there someone out there has read my Tweets and this site, well, it was odd.  To know that they can see my ugly face, to hear my nasally voice, well, I dont think I’m ready for the attention.  I thought I was, but I may not be.  Maybe I should ease into this world of lifecasting by first getting my podcast idea off of the ground first?

Nah, I’ll just do it and results be damned!  They’re only strangers after all.  (But strangers hope to make my friends!) (my gawd that was sickly, wasn’t it.)

Where The Hell is Matt

June 22, 2008

When I attended ROFLcon, the internet celebrity that I most enjoyed meeting was Matt Harding from “Where The Hell Is Matt”. Matt was entertaining and very intelligent, and just a really nice guy too. I enjoyed his talk, which you can see HERE, (I asked one of the questions.  Guess which one!) and I actually had the chance to talk to him briefly in person. I didn’t really know what to say, but I had to say hello. I wanted to tell him how jealous I was of his traveling adventures, and how I wish I had come up with the idea first, but, I didn’t.  I’m sure he’s heard all of that before.  Plus it would just be sour grapes on my part.  I think I just shook his hand and siad “I just wanted to say hello.  Thank you.”  Not much.  Like I’ve said before, I’m not a great conversationalist. Heck, I couldn’t even bring myself to ask for a picture!  Ugh.

Anyway, the other day Matt’s latest film was released.  Check it out.  Try not to cry like I did.

Drilling For Oil

June 19, 2008

The Daily Kos had this article about the recent “drilling for offshore oil” talk that has been in the news. If you can get past all the Republican bashing rhetoric, it had some interesting information. Apparently, there is no “ban”, and there are thousands of offshore acres already open to drilling, but the oil companies aren’t drilling. When you look at it, you can really see that this “conversation” that is being held is really just a way for the right to say “we want to help out Americans at the pump, but the left wont let us”, when in fact, if the oil companies wanted to drill, their is nothing stopping them from setting up shop in many places off shore. This is an excellent example of the art of politics in action. - READ IT HERE

UPDATE - Huffington Post had this article today, kinda sorta about the same thing.  INTERESTING READ.

Buying For Minors

June 17, 2008

I’m sitting back tonight with an old friend who I haven’t spent some quality time with in a long, long time.  Theakston’s Old Peculier.  Now, I’m not a big drinker; as much as I would like to be, my sense of responsibility to my family, coupled with a family history of alcohol problems, prevent me from investing as much time with my favorite drinks as I would like.  And what really sucks is the fact that I kinda consider myself a real beer conasior (sp?).

Back in my college days, I dabbled in home brewing.  This hobby lead me to read all the books on the subject, study the history of beer, and learn the science behind brewing.  I churned out some pretty bad bottles of brew, but I did come to understand and appreciate a good bottle of bear.  Now, i sometimes feel like all this knowledge is going to waist.

Anyway, tonight with the Old Peculier, well, my mind got to thinking about the past.  (”my mind got to thinking about the past.”  Yes, i realize this is a ridicules statement.)  I purchased the O.P. at a local shop that has the best selection of beers in town.  While it is the best selection in town, it is not the best selection I have ever seen.

I once lived for a short time in Southampton, New York.  There was a place in town (whose name escapes me now) that had, or so it seemed to me, Every Beer In The World!  This place was like a mecca to me!  I have been to bars with hundreds of brews to chose from, but this was the first, and only time, I had seen such a selection in a retail setting.  I knew that each time I walk through the doors of that place, I was going to find something new and something grand.

Anyway, not to go to much into my own personal past, when I was in Southampton, well, I was over the age of 21 (but not by much), and many of the people around me were not yet of the leagal age to purchase alchohal.  As you can imagine, this me we a very popular guy!  :-)

Now, I could remember being under 21 in college, and I could remember the jackyles who would charge you an arm and a leg to make a run to the liqueur store for you.  Well, now it was my turn to charge an arm and a leg!  Actually, I didn’t set out to be such a dick.  The only think I asked for in exchange for breaking the law was a simple six pack.  Just six little beers.  BUT, it was six beers of my choice, from the store I mentioned in the paragraph before last.  And let me tell you, six beers from the farthest corner of the globe can some times cost upwards of $25.oo or more.

What was so great about this was the look on the face of the “youngsters” who thought they were getting off cheap for their beer.  See, going into “the deal”, I would say “Sure, I’d be happy to buy for you and your firends.  All I ask in exchange is ONE SIMPLE SIX PACK.  My Pick.”  Their limited palate didnt extend much beyond Michaloed and Miller Genuine Draft, and as such, they could not imagine a six being more then six dollars.  But, when they saw the receipt, with a a bier they had never heard of, let alone could pronounce, with a price tag more then an Andrew Jackson, well, it was priceless!  (does that count as a pun?  If so, it wasn’t intended, but it makes me laugh even more!  That, or it’s just the afore mentioned Old Peculier.)

Anyway, thanks to those kids, I was able to experience many tastes created around the world I would not have been able to have able to other wise.

And if I may (and I may, it’s my crappy site, so shut the f*ck up!), another quick s
